Protector Academy Qualification

The Protector Academy Qualification Program is for USCCA members who want more than a checkbox qualification. This program is designed to validate real competence, disciplined gun handling, and defensive accuracy through progressive, standards-based live-fire evaluations.

Each qualification level is offered individually and must be completed in sequence.
All instruction and qualifications are conducted by a certified USCCA Instructor.

Qualification Levels

Level 1 – Fundamental Qualification

Purpose
Establish safe handling, foundational accuracy, and confidence at common defensive distances.

Prerequisites

  • Active USCCA membership

  • Completion of 2 hours of in-person instruction with any USCCA-certified instructor (prior to qualification)

Qualification Standards

  • Target distances: 3–15 yards

  • Accuracy-focused course of fire

  • No time limit

This level confirms the shooter can safely and accurately engage a target without external pressure.

Level 2 – Defensive Competency Qualification

Purpose
Validate gun handling, manipulation skills, and accuracy under time pressure at realistic self-defense distances.

Prerequisites

  • Successful completion of Level 1

  • Completion of 4 hours of USCCA instruction

Competency Check

  • Load, unload, and show clear (using snap caps)

  • Demonstrated safe handling throughout the qualification

Course of Fire

  • Timed drills testing:

    • Loading and unloading

    • Load and shoot

    • Reloads

    • Malfunction clearance

  • Qualification consists of three parts

Performance Standard

  • 100% of rounds inside the 8-inch center circle

  • Each drill completed within the required time

Successful completion earns the USCCA Level 02 Qualification.

Level 3 – Advanced Timed Qualification

Purpose
Measure speed, precision, and consistency under strict time constraints.

Prerequisites

  • Successful completion of Level 2

  • Completion of 6 hours of live-fire instruction with a USCCA-certified instructor

Course of Fire

  • Advanced, timed drills

  • Focus on:

    • Rapid target engagement

    • Precision shooting

    • Efficient manipulation under stress

This level represents the highest standard within the Protector Academy Qualification Program.
